Did you know that “essential” workers in the State of California include “[w]orkers supporting the entertainment industries, studios, and other related establishments, provided they follow covid-19 public health guidance around physical distancing.” So if a porn studio or Hollywood movie company is essential, why aren’t churches deemed essential when they have the same ability to follow public health guidelines?

A Tale Of Two Pandemics

When the occurrence of cases turned this virus into a pandemic and local, state and federal governments began issuing public school and private business closures, stay-home orders, travel constraints, and church and social gathering restrictions, pastors and church leaders began calling Advocate’s lawyers about their concern over the suspension of their constitutional rights to freedom of assembly.

Legal Victories Sow Seeds for a Hopeful 2020

As we celebrate the blessed birth of Jesus, I am reminded that, amidst the many challenges Advocates faced in 2019, God also provided us with many important victories. I think it’s important to pause for a moment to reflect on these victories and express gratitude for the dedicated work of our Advocates legal team.

Given the increasingly Christianity-intolerant atmosphere in the United States, it is unsurprising that reports of opposition to religious rights in school have been rising.
